If you are using your own domain on Google App, you may already enabled the Chat service for your domain and started your Gtalk base on your own domain. (enabling chat please logon to you Google App, on the Dashboard you can see the chat, the setting wizard from google is really dummy friendly)
Well, next is for advanced users. Setting XMPP/Jabber for Google App.
If you’d like XMPP/Jabber based any 3rd party service outside your Google App using chat on your domain, such as allow msn/aol/icq chat in talkonaut while logon via Galk. you have to add SRV configurs via your domain provider. And here’s instruction from Google Support Enabling chat outside Google Apps.
Note: When updating your SRV records with the following information, make sure to replace gmail.com with your domain. However, don’t replace google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 5 0 5269 xmpp-server.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server1.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server2.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server3.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server4.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 5 0 5269 xmpp-server.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server1.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server2.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server3.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server4.l.google.com.
It’s really a simple (or poorly) one. Some one still dosen’t get it. And this is what my configuration in godaddy. It would help you a lot on understanding the SRV setting.
